Once again, I’m thankful for the opportunity to oversee this contest and review every submission. It’s not easy to open yourself up to strangers judging your work for possible publication, so props to everyone for participating. Being a writer can sometimes be solitary and quiet. A writer can understand how it feels to fall in love with every single character, battle with dialogues, work with vivid poetic devices, endeavor for perfection, and build an entire universe from scratch. Guess what? You’re not alone. We understand the efforts you put every day into your work. Since we are a team of writers and artists too. The writing industry is always considered as something obscure and profound by the public in general. It has become so difficult to stand alone and to stick with a writing career in the commercial society we live in today. Compared to other financial and economic-related jobs, things related to writing are the minority. Writing is a terrific passion, and writers work in a hard industry, one where success is often sought and little received. Writing is not merely something we do, but something we are, and that makes it one of the most challenging of all pursuits in life. I never got the right support to become a writer at the prime youth of my life. In the place where I come from writing is considered a cute hobby instead of passion - a commitment that writers made to themselves. Writers don’t receive the same respect that other professions do. It’s quite condescending. That sort of mentality is also so harmful to amateur writers’ confidence. From my past experience, I realize that this issue needs to be addressed. People need to understand that writing is a hard business. It is time- consumingand after dedicating late-night hours, a roller coaster of emotions to finally produce a piece of literary work that might be read around the globe. As a judge, I found it interesting to observe how people hold both the light and the darkness within themselves. Creative writing is a powerful means through which we can process fear and that which is beyond our understanding. The Medieval Era was a time of amazing imagination and storytelling. The rich and diverse poems of the time are still praised to this day. KELLY SARGENT ABOUT HER Snowflakes and Mistletoes Reading Winter poetry reminds us of what sets this time of year apart from the other seasons. Though the earth is entering into hibernation, talented poets have a way of awakening us and our senses to unique pleasures: spotting the first ornate snowflake and glimpsing the mystical winter solstice moon in the sky; warming our hands over the wood stove on a blustery afternoon and listening to comforting crackles from a fireplace aglow; inhaling the aromas of sumptuous holiday feasts and, of course, swallowing that first sip of rich hot chocolate after polishing off a crisp holiday sugar cookie. Wrapped in a fleece blanket and nestled on the sofa, where all you can hear are sounds of sputtering embers and poets’ voices in your mind as you take in every vivid image and measured line, holding a mug of steaming cocoa in one hand and a book of poetry in the other truly offers one of winter’s most delightful pleasures. Born and adopted in Luxembourg, Kelly Sargent grew up with a deaf twin sister in Europe and the U.S. Her 2021 poetry and artwork, including a current Best of the Net nominee, appeared in dozens of magazines in the U.S. and abroad. She also worked as an American Sign Language interpreter and wrote for a national newspaper for the Deaf. She has acted as a creative nonfiction editor for a literary journal, as well as a reviewer for an organization dedicated to showcasing works by sexual violence survivors.

Sharing your writing is an incredibly vulnerable but necessary act. During their 2022 world tour, Alok Vaid-Memon, an Indian-American genderqueer poet and performance artist, revealed that they were grieving their recently-deceased grandfather. I offer you a paraphrased anecdote: [I did not wish to share my art with you because I am in pain. But it is precise because I am in pain that I must share my art with you; to let you know that I am grieving. Through the pages of our anthology ‘Rhapsodies Of Rhyme’, we, at Wingless Dreamer Publishers attempted to celebrate the immortality of art and literature. For this edition, we decided to eradicate the barriers of ‘Themed’ poetry and welcomed all genres of poetry with open arms. We hope that the participants enjoyed the process as much as we did. About the Judge: Samuel Patrick Ava Robertson is a young trans male who is twenty two years old and lives in Edinburgh. He was born in the chilly borderlands of East Scotland and is currently pursuing a degree in English literature while also working as a Young Person, Homeless Support Worker. He also currently edits fiction and literature for the publishing company "Wingless Dreamer" in part time as Senior Editor. In literary publications like EVE, YUVAAH and WA's First International Issue, and many more, he has previously had work published. He hopes to publish his own poetry collection someday, making it accessible to readers and other aspiring LGBTQIA+ poets.

For all snowflakes in silence and all bards of bonfire, I feel truly honored to have read the works of each and every one of you. They were all amazing literary pieces of art and it was an absolute delight to have been afforded the opportunity to review your pieces. I was blown away by the sheer creativity, hardwork and innovation displayed in the contest. As such, it is an honor to be a part of this wonderful expedition to redefine winter poetry Winter, for me, is truly the most mystical season of all. It creates a quiet, soothing, yet cold and dark atmosphere that creates an innate need to seek warmth. This need to seek warmth manifests in many ways, from wrapping yourself like a blanket of presents, to sipping on hot beverages like the cold empty sea where all rivers come to home. Poetry is yet another one of these transformative experiences, and writing your heart out warms you as well as others around you when they get to absorb your words of emotion, feelings and memories. With the season of stillness and the weather of wanderers going back to homes, we sought to invite talented and aspiring poets from across the world to go beyond the ordinary, the mundane and to create works that shine brighter than the stars of the winter sky. It was quite a prolonged and challenging series of heated discussions, back and forth, to craft this anthology of frost and snow for our beloved readers and blossoming writers. As we rub our hands together and gather our wits together to brace the cold winds of winter, your poems provide a warm solace to our hearts, in one way or another. From melancholy to mania, from angst to apricity, from somber to surreal, your work managed to touch our souls in a spiritual catharsis that truly made us appreciate the subliminal beauty of winter. To all the poets who have struggled with themselves, It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to this anthology of Poetry On Life. As the editor, I have had the honour of reading each and every work of art submitted to this collection, and I must say, the talent displayed within these pages is truly remarkable. It is truly an honour to bear witness to the life experiences of each and every poet. For me, life is a black hole with endless possibilities. It is an overwhelming presence that absorbs everything good and bad. Life is experiencing a heart-stopping event, but life is also the happiness that comes with doing the absolutely mundane things in life. Similarly, for some writing is a life changing experience, for others it can be an everyday routine - a comfort amongst the unfamiliar eyes. Writing is a thread of gold interweaved between you and me. A passion that burns within us, a desire that transcends boundaries of time and space and touches the hearts and minds of readers we may never meet. As I read through the poems in this collection, I am struck by the depth of feeling, the artistry, and the sheer skill on display. Each of you has found a way to capture the essence of life – its beauty, its melancholy, its mystery – in your own unique way. Each of you has breathed life into the written word, making it sing, making it dance, making it soar. The Misty Cauldron- Wingless Dreamer hoped to welcome the new year with a magical touch. The Chinese Year of the Rabbit inspired us to go beyond the mortal world and extend our services to different realms. We were overwhelmed by the support that we received from everyone. Aspiring writers of the world, ​ Greetings from the editor of Nightmare Melodies! It is with immense pleasure that I share with you all a tiny chunk of my soul—this anthology. I had the incredible honour of reading each piece of horror writing submitted to this collection, and I kid you not when I say every single work stole a portion of my soul. It was an incredibly humbling and beautiful experience to give pieces of my soul to these poems. You will find that this anthology carries not only a fragment of my soul but also the souls of all the poets who made this potpourri of precious poems possible. Our souls were brought together by the darkness of the real world, the dreamscape of nightmares, and the darkness within. There is a haunting beauty in the absence of light, and these poets captured it perfectly. (Their spine-tingling horror poetry had me checking under my bed before going to sleep!) ​ As an aspiring writer myself, I understand that writing can sometimes feel like an uncertain journey through a dark dreamscape of dictionaries and thesauruses, what-ifs, structuring creativity to conform to conventional forms, and confusing commas, but fear not, for if you harbour a keen interest and love for writing, you are already on the right track! I encourage you to continue exploring the genre of horror poetry. It is one with intricate nuances about the human psyche, terrifying jump scares, and high chances of scaring the living daylights out of yourself, but it is also one that will spark in you the satisfaction of creating something that speaks to people and stimulates them to delve deeper into their minds and confront the darker corners. ​ If you ever feel discouraged, remember this: writing is like a horror movie marathon. It is scary, it is thrilling, and sometimes you must take a break and eat some popcorn. Please keep writing, exploring, and scaring the pants off of us with your nightmare melodies. You never know who you might inspire or whose nightmares you might haunt. Congratulations and sweet dreams! To all those with darkness in them, I emerge from the shadows of my black soul to greet you! I mean, how could I not? A chance to witness the poetic prowess of these terrific writers is not one I will miss! The submissions we received for this anthology were positively brimming with darkness. Through your works, we uncovered glimpses of profound truths and heartfelt emotions. Your poems explored themes of battling with mental illness, losing your identity, and the absolute absence of the existential dread of realising you gave your boss COVID. In those moments, you touched our souls and reminded us that even in the darkest times, there is poetry waiting to be born. Thank you for sharing your inner demons and twisted tales with us. While it takes immense courage to share your darkest thoughts, it takes even more courage to go on the journey of unravelling these thoughts and understanding where they are coming from and what they mean. Our bright and dark parts co-exist, and it is only natural to be scared and stray from the darker corners of our minds. To all of you who are lurking at the borders of your darkness, prodding at it, or finally confronting it, we are incredibly proud of you! We commend your bravery and wish you the best of luck in acquainting yourself with your darkness. What better way to understand the darkness within us than through poetry?
